Bloomburrow is packed with new and playable Commander cards, proving once again that Magic: The Gathering will cater future Standard sets to the Commander format.
Now that spoiler season is in full swing, we’ve had a good look at all the cards revealed so far that are playable in the Commander format, and there is something for everyone.
We’ve got new abilities never seen before and twists on classics. Here’s our list of the Top 12 Best Bloomburrow Cards for Commander & EDH Spoiled So Far:
#1 Dawn’s Truce
![Dawn's Truce mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_e2a24b4857.png)
We all know how good Heroic Intervention is in Commander. It’s a blowout whenever a player casts a board wipe. Dawn’s Truce is no different. Sure, you have to gift a card to the player in the worst position, but you also get the upside of gaining hexproof as a player for the turn compared to Heroic Intervention.
While there are plenty of effects that give indestructible in White, there aren’t many that give both indestructible and hexproof. Protecting your Commander from targeted removal like Swords to Plowshares is a valuable utility. Unfortunately, your creatures can still die to a Toxic Deluge.
#2 Three Tree City
![Three Tree City mtg](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_93301367a5.png)
Have a deck themed around a creature type? Three Tree City has virtually no downside, as it will always tap for colorless mana. With the ability to ramp an additional 3-5+ mana in the mid and late game, it makes a fantastic addition to Krenko decks, Elfball decks, Eldrazi decks, and more!
#3 Artist’s Talent
![Artist's Talent mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_a2051a82e5.png)
Artist’s Talent is good. Really good. Every noncreature spell you play for the rest of the game has the rummage ability (red’s version of looting) built into it. As an enchantment, it’s going to stick around for a while and is easy to cast at two mana.
There are only a few cards ever printed in MTG that actually have a similar recurring ability, such as Jeskai Ascendancy, which loots rather than rummages.
Because of how rare this ability is, and with Artist’s Talent being the lowest CMC and easiest to cast card that does so, it’s going to be in high demand for the decks that want it. The level-up abilities are also bonuses that can make a significant impact on the game. Don’t sleep on this card, it does a lot.
#4 Byrke, Long Ear of the Law
![Byrke, Long Ear of the Law mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_f93aadff24.png)
Byrke, Long Ear of the Law, is a counter doubler that can be your Commander. You can play it as a mid-game finisher when you finish building up and start attacking.
If you’re already running cards like Branching Evolution, the counter doubling will stack and can get out of hand pretty quickly, especially since Byrke already puts counters on two creatures when it enters.
#5 Stormcatch Mentor
![Stormcatch Mentor mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_81202df85c.png)
There are exactly four other cards with a mana value of 2 or less that reduce the mana cost of instant and sorcery spells by one in the entire history of Magic: The Gathering as of the time of writing. Every deck that wants a copy of those is also going to want Stormcatch Mentor.
Stormcatch Mentor is also a Wizard, making it perfect for a Wizard Commander deck.
#6 Valley Rotcaller
![Valley Rotcaller mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_aca7d36020.png)
Do you have a Rat or Squirrel deck? Valley Rotcaller is a significant upgrade. Not only will all opponents lose life for each attacking creature of that type, but you’ll also be gaining life. Once you’re attacking with an army of 7-8 critters, that really starts to add up.
This is like a 4x better version of Hellrider in the right deck for the Commander format.
#7 Hop to It
![Hop to It mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_b6758bcafc.png)
There are only a handful of cards that can create three tokens for three mana without downside. Because this is in White, it’s a must-run for many token-based Commander decks. Time to hop to it!
#8 Mistbreath Elder
![Mistbreath Elder](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_84d9982ad2.png)
Mistbreath Elder is the most mana-efficient recurring way to bounce creatures back to your hand. Do you want additional ETB effects, or do creatures entering the battlefield trigger other abilities in your deck? If so, Mistbreath Elder is the card for you.
#9 Byway Barterer
![Byway Barterer MTG Card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_2be5d56ab5.png)
Red isn’t known for its card draw, especially recurring card draw. Byway Barterer is a rare exception. As long as you’re spending 4 or more mana a turn, you’ll get to keep drawing two cards.
Expend also counts mana spent on additional costs, so it works great with X spells and modal spells.
#10 Bello, Bard of the Brambles
![Bello, Bard of the Brambles mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/bello.png)
Bello, Bard of the Brambles is one of the Precon Commanders from Bloomburrow. We’re not including it just because it’s from the precons, but because its ability is amazing.
Bello turns your big mana artifacts into beatsticks that create card advantage. Imagine combining this with affinity cards that you can cast for free, which then become 4/4s.
#11 Flubs, the Fool
![Flubs, the Fool mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_e9edfeffd3.png)
Flubs is an interesting build-around Commander from the Bloomburrow precons. You’ll get a mini Azusa, Lost but Seeking, paired with the ability to draw cards if you’re hellbent.
Once you have enough lands in play, you can create a ton of card advantage by continually casting the new spells you draw.
#12 Maha, Its Feathers Night
![Maha, Its Feathers Night mtg card](https://mtginsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/en_fe051b2d92.png)
Maha might not be the nicest card in Commander, but it can be one of the most powerful when it hits the battlefield.
Imagine pairing it with Pestilence or Night of Souls’ Betrayal. Need I say more?
