Few MTG creature types are as iconic as elves. They were part of the original Magic: the Gathering Alpha set way back when Llanowar Elves was first printed in 1993 and have been a huge part of the game ever since.

What a badass card.
It’s no wonder that this classic creature type has dozens of Commanders to choose from. Some of the best elf Commander cards aren’t even elves themselves.
While there are many great cards with the “elf” creature type that are legendary, this list is focused only on the best Commanders for an elf based EDH deck, regardless of the Commanders creature type itself.
Here are the cream of the crop, and in no particular order, the 10 Best Elf Commanders in MTG:
#1 Marwyn, the Nurturer

Marwyn is essentially an Elvish Archdruid as your Commander. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Since printed, Marwyn has become the most popular elf Commander in the game. She can set you up early with ramp and finish late game with a huge Commander body.
Marwyn combines well with powerful pump spells that you are already going to be running in an elf deck, such as Coat of Arms. Once you play with this Commander for a few games, you’ll see why it took our top spot.
#2 Eladamri, Lord of Leaves

Eladamri is my favorite elf Commander. I’ve been running it for over a decade. Having all your creatures dodge spot removal is a pretty sweet advantage. There is a big downside though, you also can’t target your elf cards.
Don’t underestimate forestwalk. Making elves unblockable is a pretty sweet way to KO a player with an impressive board state. Thanks to relatively newer cards like Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth, Eladamri has gotten even better over the past few years.
Eladamri is also on the reserved list, which means MTG promised to never reprint it. So if you ever plan to play it, you might want to pick up a copy now before it goes up in price.
#3 Voja, Jaws of the Conclave

Voja is one hell of a card, and the newest elf(ish) Commander to make the list.
One of the new trends in MTG is giving Commanders ward, and it really shines here. Ward 3 is a hefty cost for any opponent, which means it’s much more likely to make it to a combat step.
Voja’s buff is incredible. It is effectively like putting a new Coat of Arms onto the battlefield every turn. It doesn’t take many attacks for Voja to win the game.
#4 Galadriel, Light of Valinor

Galadriel is a new Commander brought to us from the LOTR Commander products and Tales of Middle-Earth Scene Box.
This elf noble legend is an amazing enabler for elfball strategies. First, play a creature spell and add three green mana. Then use that mana to cast a mana dork to scry 2 and draw a card from your new ETB trigger (put a creature on top so you don’t run out of steam). Use your remaining two mana to play whatever you drew and put a +1 counter on each creature you control.
As you can see, it’s pretty easy to trigger all 3 abilities each turn. Oh, and don’t forget you can use cards like Imperious Perfect to put creatures into play on opponent’s turns to get additional triggers.
#5 Lathril, Blade of the Elves

This Kaldheim Precon Commander has become one of the most popular elf Commanders in the game. In fact, MTG player (and sometimes singer songwriter) Post Malone piloted his own blinged-out version on an episode of I Hate Your Deck (a YouTube channel featuring Commander gameplay).
At its base power level, two elf tokens per combat is no joke, and the threat of reaching 10 untapped elves is real. Lathril can quickly build an elf army that will win the game, earning it a top spot on our list.
#6 Ezuri, Renegade Leader

Ezuri makes attacking and blocking considerably easier for an elf deck. A single Llanowar Elf chumps the largest of creatures and survives.
The best part of Ezuri is the built-in Overrun effect. Tap your Priest of Titania, add 10 mana or so, and give all your elf creatures +6/+6 until end of turn. And, If you have an unlimited mana combo, just win the game with a single elf attack.
#7 Tyvar the Bellicose

Tyvar decks are some of the most sick counter decks around. Run synergistic cards like Winding Constrictor and go to town with mana dorks. Just imagine Elvish Archdruid and Priest of Titania getting their power pumped every turn equal to the number of elves you control.
And for some reason, all your elves also get deathtouch. So yea, their 7/7 is still going to die to your now 5/5 attacking Llanowar Elves.
Pairing Tyvar with Seedborn Muse is a backbreaking combo. You’ll get four untap steps in a single turn around the table, making your mana dorks resemble lethal threats.
#8 Karametra, God of Harvests

Elfball decks tend to run tons of one and two mana creatures. With Karametra as your Commander, it turns all of those creatures into a free Rampant Growth. That card advantage will thin out your deck, and help you go long and combo out quicker.
White access also gives you a few game-warping cards to splash. Namely, Teferi’s Protection.
#9 Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy

If you’re after power more than flavor, Kinnan is OP in an elf build. There’s no shortage of elves that tap for mana, and Kinnan exploits this fact.
Kinnan also has infinite mana combos. Looking at you Basalt Monolith. So whether you run them or not, prepare to be considered the table’s archenemy when you run this as your Commander.
#10 Raggadragga, Goreguts Boss

Raggadragga might as well read “elves you control get +2/+2”, because that’s pretty much what it does.
The weakness of most mana dorks is that they don’t finish the game well. Raggadragga overcomes that weakness. Combo it with X spells and its +2 ability to deal a tremendous amount of damage with even the smallest of base power creatures.
This human boar also gives the ability to attack with your dorks and use them for mana if they survive combat. If you play mana dorks with vigilance or give them vigilance, you can use their mana ability twice. When the untap trigger goes on the stack, tap it for mana, then it will untap and you can tap it again.
The Best Elf Commander You Can’t Play
I can’t end a list of the best elf Commanders of all time without naming this card. Out of all the legendary creatures ever printed in MTG, there are only a dozen or so that are banned in EDH / Commander. Sadly, one of the greatest elves in the game is on that list. Roffellos, Llanowar Emissary.

Back when we called it EDH instead of Commander, I used to run a Rofellos deck and combine it with cards that untap creatures to add some serious mana. It was pretty crazy as far as EDH decks went back then. So here is to you Rofellos!
Now that we live in a Thoracle cEDH world, perhaps it could be unbanned. Who knows?
