Duskmourn’s official sneak peek launched today, and it’s oozing with terrifying and sinister new cards, artwork, and lore.
It’s been an on-and-off tradition for Magic: The Gathering to release dark fantasy-inspired sets around Halloween, and this year we are in for a special treat, with Duskmourn releasing on September 27.
So far, about a dozen new cards have been spoiled for Duskmourn, as well as an equal amount of new artwork.
Compiled here are all the spoilers revealed today at the MagicCon: Amsterdam official preview panel:
Duskmourn Spoilers: Logo and Name
The Duskmourn set is inspired by 70s and 80s horror television as well as the haunted house trope. We can see this reflected in the distorted TV effect of the text “House of Horror” within the logo above.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Full-Art Basic Manor Lands
Duskmourn will feature its own set of full-art basic lands called Manor Lands. These depict various scenes and locations within the House of Horror.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Leyline of Hope
A cycle of Leylines is returning in the set. These are cards that enter the battlefield for free if you have them in your opening hand.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Cursed Recording
Another card for Harmless Offering decks. Now this is a creepy effect. Trying not to die is a theme of the set. Good luck.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Chainsaw
Duskmourn isn’t afraid to go full-on with pop culture references, as we see a Chainsaw equipment card spoiled!
As far as card power levels go, Chainsaw is an interesting one. The downside of equipment is that they usually don’t do anything the turn they enter. In this case, it acts like a Lightning Strike to creatures when it enters, and then you can equip it for value later on.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Come Back Wrong
Come Back Wrong might be my favorite card spoiled so far. That’s about the creepiest effect I’ve seen on an MTG card since Saw in Half.
This card might see play in multiple formats, especially Commander. Destroying the best creature in play and gaining control of it for a turn is spicy.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Toby, Beastie Befriender
We’re getting a Monsters Inc vibe with the card Toby, Beaster Befriender.
This card looks sick. It’s a Lovestruck Beast in white. Even better, you can blink it to make another 4/4 token. There’s also the additional upside of having your token gain flying.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Nowhere to Run
Ward is starting to make removal worse in Standard and other formats. I suppose this is the answer.
It’s also an enchantment, so blink effects are going to be great.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Fear of Missing Out
As if we didn’t already have FOMO around new MTG cards and sets, now we have a literal card for it.
Fear of Missing Out makes us care about the graveyard again, which could be another theme for the Duskmourn set. It also works well with the new Disa Tarmogoyf Commander deck.
Duskmourn Spoilers: The Wandering Rescuer
Now that’s a killer surprise! Whenever an opponent tries to kill a creature you control, you can convoke it to pay for The Wandering Rescuer’s mana cost, thus causing it to tap and giving it hexproof.
There are plenty of ways to get this out early with convoke, and having double strike makes it a formidable threat. I expect this card to play a role in Standard aggro decks once it’s released.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Double Exposure Cards
Duskmourn is introducing a new foil design called Double Exposure. There will also be a Textured Foil Double Exposure version.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Special Guest Cards
Special Guest cards are returning in Duskmourn. These cards are not Standard legal (unless they already were otherwise), but they do bring us some exciting new artwork for popular cards.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Doomsday Excruciator Mirror Monster Version
Before we talk about how insane this card is, MTG wants you to know this is the Mirror Monster version of the card. This art style shows the reverse view, from the victim being attacked. Creepy.
Now for the ability, this might be the craziest mill card ever printed! It exiles everyone’s deck except for the bottom six cards. That’s ridiculous. Don’t be deceived by those 6 black pips. This is easy to cast in formats like Commander with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and K’rrik, Son of Yawgmoth.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Screaming Nemesis Mirror Monster Version
Red decks just got a powerful tool added to their arsenal. White decks have often boarded efficient life gain to counter red aggro. That’s going to be much more difficult with Screaming Nemesis in Standard.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Impending Mechanic
Overlord of the Hauntwoods was spoiled yesterday, but today we finally find out what the Impending mechanic does. Turns out our guesses were right. Here’s exactly what it does:
If you cast this spell for its impending cost, it enters with {} time counters and isn’t a creature until the last is removed. At the beginning of your end step, remove a time counter from it.

Duskmourn Spoilers: Fracture Foil
We saw the Fracture Foil version of Overlord of the Hauntwoods yesterday. Today, we get to see it for Enduring Tenacity. Also, we now know the English versions will get the Fracture Foil treatment as well.
Duskmourn Spoilers: Buy-a-Box Promo
Duskmourn will have Twitching Doll as the foil buy-a-box promo. Here’s a closer look.
Twitching Doll solves the problem of mana dorks becoming useless late-game. Sacrificing it on turn 7 could net you four 2/2s!
Green is getting some powerful ramp since Llanowar Elves was also confirmed for Standard this November. Playing these back-to-back on turns 1 and 2 makes it possible to have 5 mana by turn 3.
Duskmourn Spoilers – Commander Decks & Archenemy Cards
Above are the four commander decks for Duskmourn House of Horror led by: Aminatou, Winter, Zimone, and Valvagoth. Oh, and Archenemy is back.
Duskmourn Spoilers – Scheme Cards 1/2
Each Duskmourn commander deck contains 10 unique Schemes that can be mixed to create your own powerful Scheme deck.
Duskmourn Spoilers – Scheme Cards 2/2
Per MTG, “the Archenemy is bolstered by the effects of powerful Scheme cards in their quest for victory!”
Duskmourn Spoilers – Product Lineup
Above is the product lineup for Duskmourn House of Horror. There will be Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, a Prerelease Kit, a Bundle, and a Special Nightmare Bundle.
Duskmourn Spoilers – Key Dates
The Duskmourn House of Horror prerelease is slated for Septemeber 20-27, with an MTG Arena debut of September 24, and global product release on September 27.
