Magic: The Gathering is diving deep into the world of Bikini Bottom with a SpongeBob SquarePants Secret Lair releasing in 2025. And no, this Secret Lair isn’t announced for April 1st, or maybe it is, as the date is TBD!

The MTG Secret Lair account broke the news today on X (formerly Twitter).

It's no secret that the best thing about a secret is secretly telling someone your secret, thereby adding another secret to their secret collection of secrets, secretly.

The Secret Lair news came with the caption:

Spongebob Squarepants secret lair announcement

This isn’t the first time MTG has crossed over with popular cartoons. They’ve previously had Secret Lairs for My Little Pony, as well as Transformers.

MTG players are also hilariously giving credit to the comic “Cardboard Crack” for predicting the inclusion of SpongeBob SquarePants in MTG way back in 2020.

Some gamers have been calling this the “Fortnitification” of MTG as they lean on third-party IPs to bring in new players. So far it appears to be working, as MTG has been having record sales on its licensed IP products, such as Lord of the Rings.

In other news today, MTG also announced all future Universes Beyond sets would be Standard legal, as well as 3 new sets, including Aetherdrift.
