Wizards of the Coast has revealed its latest Secret Lair drop, Oishii! Tokens (meaning Delicious! in Japanese), which includes four adorable food tokens priced for a total of $14.99.
The drop features artwork by もみじ真魚/MAOMOMIJI and showcases Japanese-inspired food illustrations in an anime-style presentation.
The collection includes four different food tokens: a hamburger with fries, a traditional Japanese bento box, a pudding dessert, and an assortment of sushi with green tea. Each token features artwork with manga style labeling to create a look we haven’t seen before in MTG food tokens.

Each purchase will include a total of the 4 tokens seen above/below and presumably a not yet revealed bonus card.
Timing Frustrates Collectors
The standalone release has sparked debate within the Magic: The Gathering community, particularly regarding its timing. The drop was revealed separately from the recently concluded “Vacation” Superdrop, creating frustration among players who would have added these tokens to their existing orders to meet free shipping thresholds.
“[Expletive] move to put this as a separate drop from the Vacation superdrop, WotC. Shame on ya’ll,” commented one Reddit user, echoing a common sentiment that the separation appears deliberately designed to generate additional shipping charges.
Many players expressed that these tokens would have been perfect add ons to reach shipping minimums. “This is the kind of thing I would add to my cart to get it over shipping and handling restrictions, or get my cart high enough for the free card,” noted one MTG player in a highly upvoted Reddit response.
With shipping costs adding approximately $10-11 to the base $14.99 price, it’s understandable why some players expressed reluctance to purchase the tokens alone, as it pushes the effective cost to around $25-30 for just four tokens.
Beauty vs. Value Debate
Despite pricing concerns, the artwork itself stands out as a unique and food way to add personality to an MTG deck that uses Food tokens.
Some have compared the cost favorably to purchasing tokens directly from artists at conventions:
“Price isn’t that far off what I’d expect to pay for buying tokens from an artist at magiccon,” another Reddit user pointed out.
Others suggested that the artistic quality justifies the price: “If you sold these as a collection of 4 small prints to be framed… no one would question a $15 dollar price tag.”
It’s also notable that proxies are legal for tokens at all levels of play, making the premium pricing difficult to justify for many.
