GameStop became popular for buying up used games and giving out store credit. Now, they want to do the same with your Magic: The Gathering collection.
In a pinned post on X, GameStop announced its interest in purchasing slabbed PSA 8, 9, and 10 trading cards. This offer extends to a variety of games, including Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and others.
GameStop encourages gamers to explore their new website section dedicated to collectible cards to learn more. This section already features hundreds of PSA slabbed trading cards for sale.
If you’re interested in selling your collection, you’ll have to head into the local shop. Sellers are directed from the GameStop website to a store locator.
As of the time of writing, no publicly available price lists or information is available for how much cash or credit you can get for a specific card. That’s likely to remain the case, as trading cards fluctuate in value over time.
According to Polygon, which reached out to multiple GameStop store locations, they’re only buying cards for $500 or less. So, you’ll have to go elsewhere if you’re looking to offload a Black Lotus.
Although a $500 limit might seem steep, Magic: The Gathering cards have recently been fetching for astronomical prices. Earlier this year, MTG Rocks reported that a CGC-10 graded Black Lotus sold for a record $3 million, surpassing the previous record set last year when the below serialized “The One Ring” card sold for over $2 million to MTG player and singer, Post Malone.
It’s clear that trading cards are becoming highly sought after commodities, and GameStop is eager to join the market.
