The current Standard format has some of the most expensive Magic: The Gathering cards in recent memory.

Why is the Standard format so expensive? It might be because so many new cards have been pushed to be playable in multiple formats, such as Commander. This strategy has been working, as MTG is reporting record sales. Around the time Phyrexia: All Will Be One released last year, Hasbro announced MTG as the company’s first-ever billion-dollar brand.

In this list of the big-money cards in Standard, we are only looking at the regular border non-foil versions. This gives us a good idea of the entry-level price to obtain these valuable Standard cards.

Before you go off collecting the best cards in MTG for Standard, you should know that there will be a massive rotation in card legality this August.

On Friday, August 2nd, 2024, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, Innistrad: Crimson Vow, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, and Streets of New Capenna sets will no longer be Standard legal. You will still be able to play them in other formats.

Without further ado, here are the Top 20 Most Expensive MTG Cards in Standard Right Now:

Those are the top 20 most valuable cards in Standard as of the time of writing. We expect these prices to change significantly once the Standard rotation arrives this August. Generally speaking, Standard cards will drop in price post-rotation, and the cards left in the format will rise as players adjust their decks.

Although that’s been the precedent for previous Standard rotations, this one might be different. Many of the most expensive cards in Standard right now are highly playable in other formats, such as Sheoldred, Boseiju, Who Endures, and Atraxa, Grand Unifier, to name a few.
