Move aside Eldrazi winter, Eldrazi summer could be on the way. Eldrazi Tron decks are putting up impressive back-to-back wins in big Modern events this past weekend.

Today, an Eldrazi Tron build dominated a 111 player event to take home 1st place. This followed a similarly impressive run yesterday where another Eldrazi Tron deck won a 76 player Modern event online.

These wins are from large events consisting of 10 rounds, meaning you can’t just luck your way into a 5-0 victory like with smaller MTGO leagues. With these kind of results, the new Eldrazi Tron deck could become a serious contender in the post-MH3 Modern format.

Before we get into the new decklist, here are the notable upgrades from MH3 that Eldrazi Tron is now utilizing:

Eldrazi Tron Mana Base MH3 Upgrades

Eldrazi Tron Lands MH3

Eldrazi Tron got a major boost to its mana base with Ugin’s Labyrinth. Previously, the deck had access to Eldrazi Temple for double colorless, but now there are 8 potential lands (4 copies of Labyrinth and Temple) that can add double colorless in the deck.

Of course, Eldrazi Tron also runs the Tron lands, but those require you to assemble three lands together to double up on mana. With say, a double Ugin’s Labyrinth, you could play Karn, the Great Creator on turn two!

Keep in mind, there’s a handful of land hate in Modern, so post SB, exiling cards from your hand could become a downside if it gets blowup on a later turn, or if your opponent drops a Blood Moon.

Still, with Tron lands, Eldrazi Temple, and Ugin’s Labyrinth, Eldrazi Tron has access to more colorless mana acceleration than ever before!

Eldrazi Tron typically uses lower mana value finishers like Reality Smasher and Thought-Knot Seer. The new build focuses on the game-ending finishers of Emrakul, the World Anew and Devourer of Destiny. For added spice, they also run a few copies of The Underworld Cookbook to create opportunities to cast Emrakul for only the madness cost of 6.

What makes Emrakul, the World Anew so impressive in this build is its on cast trigger. It gains control of all creatures your opponent controls. And no, that’s not until end of turn, that’s for the rest of the game!

Once you cast Emrakul and your opponent is left with an empty board, they can’t even target Emrakul with spells they cast that turn, making it nearly invincible.

The other game finisher, which can be can cast on turn 3 with Tron lands, is Devourer of Destiny. Devourer stacks your deck for free and makes it easier to get the Tron lands you need. On cast, it also exiles any card that is one or more colors.

Devourer doesn’t end the game in one turn, but the combination of setting you up early for success and being a 2-for-1 make it a strong upgrade in the deck. Remember, it’s an Eldrazi so your Eldrazi lands also help you cast it early.

Karn and The Underworld Cookbook

One of the best things about the new Eldrazi Tron build is being able to play Emrakul, the World Anew for only 6 mana, thanks to its madness ability. Because the deck runs 4 Karn, the Great Creator, you can use it to fetch The Underworld Cookbook from your sideboard. This card only costs one mana and gives you a method to discard Emrakul and trigger the madness ability!

The updated deck tends to run about 1-2 Cookbooks in the main deck and 1 in the sideboard. This effectively gives your deck access to 5-6 potential ways to draw a Cookbook if you count each Karn.

This isn’t the first deck to achieve wins in the new post-MH3 Modern meta. We recently covered an updated Chord Toolbox build with Nadu, Winged Wisdom that has been racking up 5-0 victories on MTGO.

If you’re still on the sidelines about which Modern deck to build, there’s an upcoming Pro Tour Modern Horizons 3 event in Amsterdam on June 28-30. This will be our first chance to see which updated Modern decks truly have what it takes to go the distance in the format.
